Join Response in supporting Stoptober 2024

Response supports Stoptober and this year we encourage our communities and the individuals we support, to take the first step towards quitting smoking. By quitting smoking, individuals can expect to see improvements to their physical and mental well-being such as increased energy and reduced levels of anxiety.

Take the first step toward better mental and physical health by quitting smoking this October. See below why Stoptober matters to Response, as well as access toolkits to support you in your journey to a smoke-free future.

What is Stoptober?

Stoptober is a nationwide campaign that encourages people to quit smoking for the month of October.

Even if it’s your first time or you’ve tried before, Stoptober gives you the perfect opportunity to make an attempt to quit smoking. With the right support, quitting is easier than most people think. Start planning today by checking out the free tools and tips available, to help you stay on track.

Stoptober Challenge: Stoptober challenges you to stay smoke-free for 28 days. Based on evidence that if a smoker can make it to 28 days smoke free, they are 5 times more likely to quit for good.

Why Stoptober Matters for Mental Health

As a mental health charity, we recognise the strong link between smoking and mental health. Many people use smoking as a coping mechanism, believing it reduces stress and anxiety. However, research shows that smoking often worsens mental health, creating a harmful cycle. While nicotine may offer temporary relief, it ultimately increases anxiety and mood swings.

By encouraging those in our communities, as well as the individuals we support to quit smoking, we hope to reinforce our mission of improving mental health and wellbeing. You can support this mission by donating to Response. Your generous contributions enable us provide vital resources and support across all of our services.

Quit Smoking Tools

Research shows that people are much more more likely to quit successfully if they get support, than if they try to go cold-turkey. Check out some useful tools below to support you in your journey to a smoke-free future.
